Above the surface

Bird pictures from our three-month stay in Iceland in our motor home via the ferry to Seyðisfjörður. In May a small round-about to Mývatn, Húsavík and back. In June-July the big circle, south coast to Reykjavík, then Snæfellsnes, Flatey, Látrabjarg, the West-fjords and the northern route back. Sixty-two species are shown here, with pictures mostly in chronological order.

Pictures from local excursions

Pictures from the '1000 years of pharmaceutical aerosols' conference in Reykjavik, Iceland, that I took part in arranging. Some nice landscapes at the end.

The second non-diving trip this year. We visited Pelin a week in September. Istanbul (where she lives and studies) and Izmir (her home town).

On this trip to Iceland we visited the inlands accompanied by Einar and his 4-wheel drive car. The goal was Lantmannalaugar east of Hekla, a magnificent landscape with liparip mountains, geothermal activity and beautiful trecks. Also visited a few seabird nesting cliffs at the Reykjanes coast.

On Nusa Lembongan the red algae Kappaphycus alvarezii is farmed for its content of Carragenan, an important ingredient in processed food. All of the shallow, protected bay outside our hotel is used for this labour intensive aquaculture. Read more here and here.The UW pictures from Lembongan are here.

Land pictures from the trip to Saudi Arabia 2008. Most time was spent on the livaboard, naturally, but we also visited small, sandy islands with nesting birds and turtles. In Jeddah (the ugliest city in the world) we visited the propaganda museum and the souk before the adventurous 20 hour flight back. See also the UW pictures.
